The Junior League of Austin
The Strength of Women. The Power of Community.
It is truly an honor to serve as the President of The Junior League of Austin this year. Founded in 1934, The Junior League of Austin is an organization of approximately 2,000 members committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.
This year, the League will contribute approximately 1.2 million dollars of direct financial support and over 100,000 Junior League volunteer hours to support more than fifty local nonprofit agencies, ten League programs, and two significant community endeavors: the Dell Children’s Medical Center and the Long Center for the Performing Arts.
The impact that the League makes in our community is possible because of the dedication of our members, made up of 800 active, trained volunteers who each give 70-100 hours a year in service on behalf of The Junior League of Austin. Beyond their active membership, the League’s Sustaining members continue to serve the League and our community through their leadership and participation in activities addressing a variety of emerging community needs throughout the city.
In addition to its’ members, The Junior League of Austin is supported by generous donors, corporations, nonprofit organizations, community partners and friends who help us in “Building A Better Community” year after year.
It takes people from a variety of backgrounds, with unique life experiences, to make a difference in our community. Our members are dedicated, professional, and well-educated women with over 75% of them employed outside the home. The training our members receive enables them to become positive agents of change in the community within businesses, schools, and other nonprofit agencies. I invite you to encourage talented women you know to learn more about our organization and consider contributing their time and volunteer efforts as a member of The Junior League of Austin.
Together, we can make a difference in our community!
Kathi Haralson
President
2009-2010
