The Junior League of Austin

Letter to Agencies

September 2009

Dear Coats for Kids Supporter,

With cooler weather approaching, The Junior League of Austin is busy preparing for another successful Coats for Kids event and we need your help in identifying eligible children who need warm winter coats.  Please give the enclosed informational flyers to parents in need and encourage them to attend Distribution Day, on Saturday, December 5, 2009, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the Palmer Events Center.  You may request more flyers be sent to you, but we encourage you to make additional copies as needed.

Recipient eligibility will be reviewed on Distribution Day.  Eligibility requirements for coat recipients remain the same as in previous years and are as follows:

  1. Children must be 18 years of age or younger and live in the Central Texas area.
  2. A child’s family must be living at or below the national poverty level or be enrolled in a governmental assistance program.  Proof of eligibility will be required on Distribution Day and may include a WIC, CHIP, Lonestar, Medicaid, Social Security, or MAP card, or proof of enrollment in a Free or Reduced School Lunch Program.

Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian on Distribution Day.  Adults who come without children must show proof of a child’s birth date for each eligible child and each adult is limited to picking up six coats for children who are not present that day.

Because a large number of the children we serve come from Spanish-speaking families, there is a great need for bilingual volunteers (18 years of age or older) on Distribution Day.  Three-hour volunteer shifts are available on December 5th.  For more information about volunteer opportunities and to sign-up, please go to our website at www.jlaustin.org

If you have any questions regarding coat recipient eligibility, call the Coats for Kids office at (512) 467-8982 ext 293, send an e-mail to cfkcoats@jlaustin.org, or visit www.jlaustin.org

Very truly yours,
