The Junior League of Austin
The Strength of Women. The Power of Community.
As I begin my 14th year of volunteer service through The Junior League of Austin, I am truly honored to serve as the President of this great organization. Founded in 1934, The Junior League of Austin is an organization of approximately 2,000 Active, Sustaining and Provisional members committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.
Annually, the League contributes an average of $1 million of direct financial support and more than 100,000 Junior League volunteer hours to support over forty local nonprofit agencies and ten League programs. The League’s community impact is possible thanks to the dedication of our trained volunteers who each give 70-100 hours a year in service through The Junior League of Austin. In 2010-11, I will be proud to welcome the largest class of first-year members (Provisionals) in our history. Volunteerism is alive and well here in Austin, Texas!
Beyond their years of Active membership, the League’s Sustaining members continue to serve the League and our community through their leadership and participation in a variety of endeavors. Our Sustainers serve in vital leadership roles throughout the city as nonprofit executives, nonprofit board members, fundraising chairs, civic leaders, community activists and PTA presidents.
It’s not just League members who make The Junior League of Austin a success. Our organization is supported by generous donors, corporations, nonprofit organizations, community partners and friends who help us make a difference in the greater Austin area year after year. During these difficult economic times, our donors have been instrumental in helping us continue to help others. For every dollar given to the League, we are able to strengthen that gift with the added value of trained volunteers.
Membership in The Junior League of Austin means being part of a talented, diverse group of women who value the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to their community while developing their own leadership potential. If you know of an outstanding woman and dedicated volunteer who would be interested in becoming part of this exceptional group, please contact us.
Together, we can continue our legacy of making a difference and remain a valuable resource in our community!
