FIT (Food In Tummies) 2010-2011 ...  Read More

FIT (Food In Tummies) is a new project of The Junior League of Austin and a unique program designed to provide weekend nourishment to children grades PreK‐5 who qualify for the National School Lunch Program (NSLP – which provides free and reduced meals). Multiple studies and extensive research indicate children who are hungry do not excel in school. The NSLP addresses the issue of hunger during the week, but not on the weekend. In its pilot year, the FIT, managed by the JLA in collaboration with the Del Valle Independent School District, will benefit the entire student population of Baty Elementary which currently enrolls more than 800 students. These children will receive packs full of healthy food along with bilingual recipe cards and nutrition tips every weekend for 32 weeks during the 2010‐2011 school year. For as little as $5, you can feed a child for one week.

As Coats for Kids 2010 begins preparations for its 24th year of serving Central Texas children, we look forward to the continued participation and support of our dedicated community.  Due to the tremendous volunteer efforts in 2009, Coats for Kids distributed more than 31,000 warm winter coats to children in need.  Coats for Kids serves children as far south as San Marcos and as far north as Georgetown, with an equal breadth east and west.  With our mass buying power, just $15 can buy a brand new, warm winter coat for a child. You may make your donation in honor of someone at the end of the donation process. Thank you in advance for supporting this great cause!

Con Mi MADRE has a 18-year history of success. Since the Program's inception, 75 percent of graduating seniors have gone on to college. The remaining 25 percent have chosen to work a year before going to college, enter the military, or attend a trade school. Regardless of the post-secondary path the student decides to take, the Program's long-term goal is that these students stay in school and maintain passing grades. The Program has maintained a zero percent school dropout rate among its students.
